When I'm not blogging, I'm browsing. Here are sites and pages that I bookmarked on April 6th:

  • Fragility Of World's Coral Is Revealed Through Study Of Northwestern Hawaiian Islands: A new study how endangered coral reef ecosystems can be more effectively managed. Researchers explain how their maps of the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands can be used to make informed decisions about protecting the world's fragile reefs.

  • Study: False killer whales declining off Hawaii: The population of false killer whales in waters close to Hawaii has dramatically declined over the past 20 years, a new study says. The reason likely has to do with declining food supplies and how the mammals are getting caught and injured on the longline fishing lines.

  • UH team boosts hopes of finding WWII arms: Last month, the UHSchool of Ocean Earth Science and Technology, under contract with the military, completed the first part of a pioneering effort to locate chemical munitions south of Pearl Harbor.

  • Triathletes at risk of deadly heart failures: Swim-bike-run triathlons pose at least twice the risk of sudden death as marathons do, the first study of these competitions has found. Each year, about 1,000 of these events are held and several hundred thousand Americans try one.

  • Sopogy Receives Plant Engineering Gold Product of the Year: Sopogy, Inc. won Gold in the "Plant Engineering Product of the Year 2008" in the category of Electrical Power. The awards honor the most innovative and useful products introduced to the industrial plant engineering market each year.

  • Ocean Power Technologies announces additiona funding for Hawaii Wave Power Project: Ocean Power Technologies,a provider of wave-energy systems, said it has received $1.1 million in additional funding for its on-going project with the US Navy to demonstrate the PowerBuoy system off the Hawaiian island of Oahu.
