When I'm not blogging, I'm browsing. Here are sites and pages that I bookmarked on June 21st:

  • Marines to use autonomous vehicles built by Virginia Tech engineering students: Four unmanned autonomous vehicles designed and built by a team of engineering students at Virginia Tech are headed to Hawaii to participate in the 2010 Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) war games in July.

  • The spectacular moment universe's newest and youngest star 'was born': Despite its tiny size, scientists believe they caught the precise moment the star was formed born. It is the most detailed glimpse of a star’s birth to date and is undetectable to the naked eye or amateur astronomers.

  • Vitamin D Status Is Not Associated With Risk for Less Common Cancers: Despite hopes that higher blood levels of vitamin D might reduce cancer risk, a large study finds no protective effect against non-Hodgkin lymphoma or cancer.

  • Japan, U.S. to explore smart grid joint project in Okinawa, Hawaii: Japan and the United States will explore a joint experimental project of a next-generation "smart grid" power transmission network in Okinawa and Hawaii.

  • Ubiquity Broadcasting Corporation Patents the Next Generation of Broadcasting: Ubiquity will debut the next generation of broadcasting while working with Time Warner Oceanic Cable to broadcast the Sponsor Me Hawaii Ala Moana Bowls contest.

  • Is Hawaii prepared for a major oil spill?: Oil response teams say Hawaii has $30 million worth of technology designed to clean up spills, including one tool that is so advanced, there are only six others in the world.

  • Pan-STARRS 1 telescope begins science mission: The world became a slightly safer place on May 13, when the Pan-STARRS 1 (PS1) telescope in Hawaiʻi started surveying the sky for killer asteroids.

  • Scientists See Billions Of Miles Away: A large group of scientists reveal the character of one of the most distant objects in the solar system in a scientific paper to appear in the journal Nature.

  • Lihue Airport First In State To Use Body Scanner: A TSA spokeswoman told KITV4 Friday Lihue is the first airport in the state to have the new technology because of logistics, not threat level. The TSA installed the scanners at airports that could accept the new machines quickly.
