When I'm not blogging, I'm browsing. Here are sites and pages that I bookmarked on June 29th:

  • EPA awards $200,000 Brownfields grant to Department of Hawaiian Home Lands: The funding will be used to start clean up work on the Department’s East Kapolei site, clearing an area adjacent to locations planned for development of affordable housing for native Hawaiians.

  • EPA awards community action grant of over $93,000 to the Waianae Coast: The funding will be used to assess how human activities near and in streams are adversely affecting subsistence and recreation use of near-shore waters along the Waianae Coast.

  • Heavy Women Have Lower Quality Relationships, But Same Is Not True For Men, Study Finds: Dr. Janet D. Latner, an Associate Professor of Psychology at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa, has co-authored an article about the weight of women and men and the quality of their romantic relationships.

  • Study Asserts SFAR Affected Sightseeing Helicopter Crashes in Hawaii: An emergency rule intended to reduce the number of deaths and injuries associated with Hawaiian air tours was followed by a 47 percent reduction in sightseeing crashes, according to a new study.

  • Electric power from monosaccharides: Researchers Daniel Scott and Bor Yann Liaw of the Hawaii Natural Energy Institute have published the results of their experiments in harnessing electric power from sugar.

  • New Tool Could Find Water in Martian Underground: The device, which is pretty basic in concept and looks, has the ability to detect ground water buried deep under the surface of the Red Planet. With the discovery of water on the planet, the goal of manned space exploration there could be brought one step closer.

  • Coast Guard focused on new technology: Despite its best efforts the Coast Guard district here saw 23 recreational boats run aground from 2005 through 2008, an average of nearly six per year.

  • Funds Available for Alt Fuel Infrastructure in 14 States: The Central States Air Resource Agencies is partnering with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to initiate a Green Gas Stations Pilot Program in fourteen states.

  • UOG professor says N. Korean missile technology "not very good": This latest missile threat to Hawaii has many on Guam seriously concerned. But according to UOG political science professor Dr. Michael Stoil, Americans have nothing to worry about.
