When I'm not blogging, I'm browsing. Here are sites and pages that I bookmarked on March 30th:

  • Tech Industry Growing In Hawaii: A state report shows Hawaii's science and tech industries generate more than $3-billion dollars a year. That's about 17-percent of Hawaii's total revenue. Yet it's employees make up only 5-percent of the state's workforce.

  • Therapeutic Cloning Gets A Boost With New Research Findings: Researchers at the University of Hawaii and University of Texas have published a paper that offers the first direct demonstration that cloning does not lead to an increase in the frequency of point mutations.

  • Four seal species in danger of slipping away: Research by Jennifer Schultz, a doctoral candidate at the Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology at the University of Hawaii, shows that Hawaiian monk seals face a genetic bottleneck, with the lowest genetic diversity of any mammal species ever studied.

  • Eating soy early in life may reduce breast cancer among Asian women: Asian-American women who ate higher amounts of soy during childhood had a 58 percent reduced risk of breast cancer, according to a study published in a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research.

  • Around the World in 80 Telescopes, 24-Hour Research Observatory Webcast: A unique live 24-hour webcast, following night and day around the globe to some of the most advanced observatories both on and off the planet. Find out what's happening at a research observatory in your country, or on the other side of the planet.

  • Four Hawaii Teams Advance to Robotics World Championship: They shot for the moon, and now four high school robotics teams from Hawaii Maui, McKinley, Moanalua and Waialua High Schools have earned a spot in the FIRST Robotics World Championship that will be held in Atlanta, Georgia next month.
