When I'm not blogging, I'm browsing. Here are sites and pages that I bookmarked on March 9th:

  • AFP: Whale sonar: Two pings are better than one: Many whale species have sonar systems that send out two pings at once, allowing them to detect underwater objects with greater accuracy than even the most sophisticated human technologies, according to a study released Wednesday.

  • Opinion: Realities of green water: Here on the west coast of the island of Hawaii in a nondescript and unassuming building, Swiss-born research scientist Markus Lenger quietly goes about the business of improving our planet.

  • Students take a virtual field trip underwater: Taking a virtual field trip to one of Hawaii's coral reefs, these students come face to face with Hawaii's endangered reefs without even getting wet. It's all because of an autonomous underwater vehicle or AUV.

  • Hydrogen Highway Part of US Army Environmental Initiatives for Hawaii: The Army is working with the Hawaii Natural Energy Institute and the Environmental Protection Agency to implement recommendations from the Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative. One initiative is working to establish a hydrogen fueling station at the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

  • Future Flight Hawaii inspires and Equips the Next Generation of Explorers: 2009 is the year of "Apollo: The Next Generation, Return to the Moon" for the 19th annual Future Flight Hawaii summer program. The theme mirrors the goal of the U.S. as it competes with China and Japan to see which country will be the next to return an astronaut to the moon.
