When I'm not blogging, I'm browsing. Here are sites and pages that I bookmarked on May 10th:

  • EIS released for $1B Big Isle telescope project: The document was released Friday, noting a few remaining issues as the university moves toward signing a sublease with TMT officials for the $1 billion project.

  • Research clears dust on quasars theory: University of Hawaii astrophysicist Ezequiel Treister and colleagues have identified a large number of quasars obscured by dust up to 11 billion light-years away, likely formed when the universe was in its infancy.

  • Electric vehicles to be made in Hawaii: The governor and the car company CT&T are working out the final details to bring a car assembly plant to Oahu. The company says it's making a $200 million dollar investment. It could also bring in millions more to the local economy.

  • Lt. Gov. Aiona Announces Funds to Help Save State Science and Engineering Fair: $425,000 in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds will go to the Hawaii State Science and Engineering Fair to continue the annual event, expand teacher training programs and provide support for the Neighbor Islands.

  • Kai Medical Chair Shindo steps into the CEO's position as well: Dustin Shindo, the entrepreneur who co-founded alternate energy firm Hoku Corp., has been named chief executive officer and president of a medical equipment company he also started.

  • NSF Awards Rapid Response Research Grants: The National Science Foundation has awarded three major Rapid Response Research grants to study how the Feb. 27 Chile quake happened, and learn from those findings for the future.
