When I'm not blogging, I'm browsing. Here are sites and pages that I bookmarked on May 18th:

  • Fish Poisoning May Be Why Polynesians Left Paradise: Could ciguatera poisoning be behind the storied migrations of the Polynesian natives who colonized New Zealand, Easter Island and, possibly, Hawaii in the 11th to 15th centuries?

  • Digital decision making: Whether you are at home or at the mall, typing at a computer terminal in the library or keying into your Blackberry or iPhone, anywhere you can access the Internet is a polling place to vote in this year's neighborhood board races.

  • Marine scientists find massive volcanic cone, new deep-sea animal species: An erupting undersea volcano near the Island of Guam appears to be continuously active, has grown considerably in size during the past three years, and its activity supports a unique biological community thriving despite the eruptions.

  • DOD readies medical 'situational awareness' technology: The Defense Health Information Management System (DHIMS) is gearing up for a test of its Medical Situational Awareness in the Theater (MSAT) portal. Akimeka, of Kihei, Hawaii, is developing a service-oriented architecture for the system.

  • Lychee Studies Yield Keys to Plentiful, Predictable Harvests: The mild, sunny climate of the Island State doesn't precisely match that of lychee's southern China origins. To boost farmers' chances of plentiful, predictable harvests, scientists have developed and tested a regimen of pruning and fertilizing lychee trees.
