When I'm not blogging, I'm browsing. Here are sites and pages that I bookmarked on May 3rd:

  • Hawaii filming of 'Lost' spent $228M locally over 4 years: The locally produced TV show, which airs its final episode on May 23, spent $228.2 million in Hawai'i from 2006 to 2009 and employed an average of 973 people full-time in each of those years.

  • Survey asks about ‘sexting’: More than 30,000 students will be asked to participate in the survey, part of a two-year study about Internet-facilitated crimes from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

  • Asteroid ice hints at rocky start to life on Earth: A slushy cocktail of water-ice and organic materials has been directly detected on the surface of an asteroid for the first time.

  • New method for inserting genes developed by UH Manoa scientists: This therapy holds promise for treating a wide range of diseases, including diabetes, cancer, cystic fibrosis, heart disease, hemophilia and AIDS.

  • NSF Awards Rapid Response Research Grants: The National Science Foundation has awarded three major Rapid Response Research grants to study how the Chile quake happened, and learn from those findings for the future.

  • Social Media In Hawaii 'Crucial' Say Experts: Some of the best minds in social media are here for a two day conference on creating a business strategy using social media tools.

  • Iolani Students Competing At National Science Bowl: Iolani School is representing Hawaii at the U.S. Department of Energy's 20th annual National Science Bowl in Washington. In all, students from 68 high school teams and 37 middle school teams are participating in the three-day competition.
