When I'm not blogging, I'm browsing. Here are sites and pages that I bookmarked on October 27th:

  • eBay founder, wife pledge $50 million to Hawaii charities over six years: eBay founder Pierre Omidyar and his wife Pam have pledged to donate $50 million over six years to the Hawaii Community Foundation. The foundation said it believed the donation is the largest single gift by a living donor in Hawaii's history.

  • Cancer Research Center of Hawai'i to receive two awards from ARRA: The University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa’s Cancer Research Center of Hawai‘i (CRCH) will receive two awards of more than $1 million each over two years, funded under the federal stimulus package.

  • Protection Sought for 83 Coral Species as Coral Heads for Worldwide Extinction: The Center for Biological Diversity filed a formal petition seeking to protect 83 imperiled coral species under the Endangered Species Act. These corals occur in U.S. waters ranging from Florida and Hawaii to U.S. territories in the Caribbean and Pacific.

  • ASHG: Quantifying Relatedness and Active Subjects in Genome Research: "Well, the American Society of Human Genetics Annual Meeting is coming to a close for another year. I’m going to give a little summary of talks today that I thought were interesting, or gave some indication of where genetics may be heading in the future."

  • Celestial delight: "The results accomplished with the development of a series of the world-leading detectors, which are known in the world as the 'Hawaii detectors,' are outstanding and the scientific perspectives for the future are breathtaking."

  • Have a Cow: A new beauty procedure using bovine stem cells has made its way to Honolulu. Helen's Haven is offering bovine stem cell topical applications to help clients repair damaged skin.

  • Hawaii Approves Plan For First Tuna Farm In US: Hawaii Oceanic Technology’s plan was approved in a 4-1 vote, which gives the company the go-ahead to put together an economically friendly environment to raise bigeye tuna.

  • Ex-Aloha exec buys small technology firm: Maury Myers and his son-in-law, Kent McConnell, bought a 20-year-old company, POS Hawaii Inc., which provides “point-of-sale” technology and products such as barcode scanners and register software for restaurants and stores.

  • Ocean Power Technologies: The most important small business you’ve never heard of before has recently inked another deal to set up a sea-based power station in Japan. Ocean Power Technologies builds buoys that ride waves, converting their natural energy into electricity.
