A coalition of Honolulu community groups is kicking off summer tomorrow night with "Chinatown Potluck," a festival to bring together the diverse Chinatown community and to highlight everything it has to offer. Good health will be at the heart of the event, which will offer delectable multi-cultural dishes "with a healthy twist." There will be entertainment, live music, and prizes, and a Keiki Health Fair.

"We're working on a two-year campaign about food and health called 'Healthy-Bound Chinatown,'" explains Kenneth Choy, community facilitator at ARTS at Marks Garage. "The 'Chinatown Potluck' will be a recurring event that promotes the campaign as well as providing a reason for the neighbors to get together and meet each other."

The "Chinatown Potluck" will be held on Monday, June 9, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the courtyard of Kukui Tower. The event is presented by the Hawaii Arts Alliance, EAH Housing, and Kalihi-Palama Health Center.

People are invited, but not required, to bring a dish to share, Choy says. Also worth sharing are "opinions on various current issues in the neighborhood." Admission is free, no reservations required, but coming early will ensure seating for everyone. For more information about the festival, call (808) 203-9509.
