Looking to learn something new, or meet new people? I highlight interesting in-person and virtual events each month, and you can always find the latest updates (and submit your events) at Hawaii Tech Events.

Build4Good Pre-Hackathon Workshop

Before the main event on the Dec. 8-10 weekend, come down to connect with fellow participants, organizers, and like-minded individuals who share your passion for leveraging technology for positive change. Hear reverse pitches of community problems to solve and learn about available tools and resources. Monday, Dec. 4 @ 6 p.m. at Halau ‘Inana (2438 South Beretania Street). Register here!

Blockchain in Paradise Holiday Party

Crypto is not dead! At least not when it’s an excuse to get together and talk blockchain and DeFi in Kaka‘ako. Whether you're interested in blockchain as a store of value, a currency, a network, or the fascinating world of NFTs, you’re welcome here. Friday, Dec. 8 @ 6 p.m. at Whole Foods Kaka‘ako (388 Kamake‘e Street). Register here!

AI Hackathon for Social Impact

In a world where climate change and social issues are pressing concerns, we believe that machine learning and AI can be a force for good. Hosted by Purple Mai‘a, "Build4Good" is a hackathon uniquely designed to tackle these challenges head-on. We focus on knowledge-based machine learning to empower participants to create innovative solutions that make a real difference in Hawaii and beyond. Friday, Dec. 8 @ 5 p.m. through Sunday, Dec. 10 @ 3 p.m. at Halau ‘Inana (2438 South Beretania Street). Register here!

Build Your Custom Generative AI Chatbot

This is a hands-on workshop geared to the software developer. Explore how Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) can help improve the use of large language model (LLM) responses. LLM models know the probability of the connection between words, but there is no knowledge about the meaning of the words. RAG attempts to ground the output to facts and reduce nonsense (hallucinations). Tuesday, Dec. 12 @ 5:30 p.m. at Entrepreneurs Sandbox (643 Ilalo St.). Register here!

Advancing a Circular Economy in Hawaii

Pi’o Summit 2023, a UH Innovation Conference. Join UH and its community partners to advance contemporary applications of ancestral innovation and resource management sciences to develop healthy communities both in Hawaii and the world. Wednesday, Dec. 13 @ Hawaii Convention Center (1801 Kalakaua Ave.). Register here!

Remote Work Early Pau Hana

Come meet other remote workers and startup founders in Hawaii. It doesn't matter if you work for big tech or remotely for a local firm, if you’re a kama‘aina or just got off the plane. All are welcome! (Ask Trung about their $300,000 federal grant!) First drink is complimentary for the first 50 registered attendees; pupus will be provided by ThriveHI! Wednesday, Dec. 13 @3:30 p.m. at Honolulu BeerWorks (328 Cooke Street). Register here!

Creating Assistants With OpenAI’s API

During OpenAI's Dev Day, OpenAI released Assistants API, a new, powerful feature that completely upends the multi-billion dollar AI economy. Assistants API allows you to customize ChatGPT to your specific use case. This event is not sponsored or affiliated with OpenAI in any way. To get the most out of this workshop, you will need a laptop, an OpenAI account (you do not need ChatGPT+), and at least $1 in your account. Thursday, Dec. 14 @ 6 p.m. at Hub Coworking (1050 Queen St.). Register here!

Even me!

Honolulu Bitcoin Developers Seminar

This is a group for the exploration of Bitcoin specifically. We will not be discussing investing, generic blockchain technology, or altcoins and ICOs. Guest speaker is Dave Harding, co-author of the Bitcoin Optech weekly newsletter and Brink.dev grant committee member, taking about what's new in Bitcoin Core 26 and why it's important. Monday, Dec. 18 @ 5:30 p.m. at Entrepreneurs Sandbox (643 Ilalo St.). Register here!
