Four local bars and restaurants are hosting a series of "Humanitarian Happy Hours" to benefit SurfAid International. The kickoff event will be at Oceans 808 at Restaurant Row on Thursday, May 7. Hosted by Billabong and New Zealand-based Wild Rock Winery, there will be live music by Johnny Helm, David Dondero, and special guest DJs, plus a book signing by Stuart Coleman, author of Fierce Heart. Professional surf photographers, including Jordan Stallard and J.T. Gray of North Shore Surf Photos.

The other venues and dates include:

  • Lulu's (Waikiki) on Friday, May 22, at 6 p.m.

  • Wahoo's Fish Taco (Ward) on Friday, June 12, at 5:30 p.m.

  • Bar 35 (Chinatown) on Thursday, June 25, at 6 p.m.

Fierce Heart is Coleman's new book, out this week, which profiles the legendary surfers of Mahaka. Coleman previously authored Eddie Would Go: The Story of Eddie Aikau.

SurfAid International is a non-profit focused on sustainable clean water and sanitation projects, Malaria education and prevention, and other community-based health programs in parts of the world connected by surfing.
