It's astonishing what kids will eat, and how much of it. But as a dad to three keiki, I can tell you that I'm not always proud of the things they put in their mouths. If you're like me, you might want to check out "The Kids Food Adventure," a national children's food tour that's coming to Hawaii this week.

Chef Jehangir Mehta will be at Whole Foods Market at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 10 to lead a cooking class designed to teach kids to be more adventurous with food, and make healthier choices at the same time.

Mehta is perhaps best known as the runner-up in last year's "The Next Iron Chef" competition on the Food Network (trumped only by Jose Garces).

He is the chef-owner of Graffiti in New York, where he works magic in a cramped 40-square-foot kitchen. It's there where he started "Candy Camp," a children's cooking class. He also authored a holistic cookbook, "Mantra: The Rules of Indulgence."
