Tomorrow is "Beach Access Day," a statewide day of action to preserve public access to beaches and shorelines. While state law says you should be able to freely enjoy our island state's beautiful coastline, aggressive property owners and government bureaucracy are making it increasingly difficult to reach them.

The non-profit group Beach Access Hawaii, along with a coalition of community groups (including KAHEA and the Surfrider Foundation), has organized a number of sign-waving rallies on several islands, a petition drive, a Honolulu trolley tour, and a Hawaii State Capitol press conference. If you can't make it to any of the events, you can still put up posters (PDF), and sign the online petition.

Still need some prodding to do something? Be sure to watch the "Preserve Beach Access Hawaii" episode of Beach Walks with Rox.
